"back",  was it connected before?  Was it de-config'd prior to 
disconnection.

If you go into

smit->Devices-> Printer/Plotter->Printer/Plotter Devices
->Configure a Defined Printer/Plotter

is it listed there?

It is possible on occasion to remove a device from beneath a print spool.  
It might be best to just remove the spool and then recreate lp4 and then 
the spool if lp4 isn't listed in "Configure a Defined Printer/Plotter"
