Has anyone tried this "tweak" for True Type Fonts?

Does it make things better or worse?

I'm thinking about grabbing the source RPM for "freetype" (if Redhat
supplies it on their FTP site :)  and rebuilding it with the patch
mentioned, and making that an "extra" on BSware if it really works ...

My desktop users still complain about poor fonts in web browsers, even
after loading the TTF's from their windows partition in XFS.
