Recently purchased a laptop (Toshiba) like Mr. Williams but it was two
steps down, and believe it or not they are very different about the only
similarities is the screen.
But on to the bigger issue.
I am the treasurer of my church, and they run M$ 98 and use quickbooks. So
since the laptop came with x^p. I seized the opportunity and realized I
could start to do all of my work from home yea. But there was a nasty
problem. x^p uses ntfs fiel system, and there is not a lot of support for
linux.... but there is some and that is all it took. Through some research
(total time on the web maybe one to two hours) I found a program called
ntfsresize. It however wanted you to download it and use a floppy well the
new Toshiba does not come with a floppy. So I just connected to the
whitemice network and used wget downloaded the program and sat next to a
computer with the web page open with the instructions. Who needs paper and
floppies. First thing I learned is that you have to follow them to a "T"
as Adam and I discovered not typing in an " M " caused confusion and
headache. So got it go finally and went to boot M$ and BLUE SCREEN OF
DEATH ah s%^&. So restored windows remembered I had one small mixup with
the instructions os started over followed instructions very very closely
and tada I have a dual boot laptop.
The site of great help was located at
http://mlf.linux.rulez.org/mlf/ezaz/ntfsresize.html
this is the same one that Bruce found.
And for kicks and giggles just installed the orinoco wireless card in
about 30 seconds on linux boy I wish linux was not so hard to use.
