Yep, they are mounted with NFS as they have always been. 
Is gconfd new or different since RH7.3? We never had a problem before.
Most users use KDE.  Again we never had a problem logging in more than 
once before RH8.0. I always used to login with KDE on a couple servers, 
since is was easier to edit with NEdit.

I'll hunt around fuser. I don't see why then would change something to 
limit you to one login.
