Basically, I program light shows with moving lights like what you'd see at a concert. I need to be able to get a CAD drawing of the room/stage.

Several of these aren't really "free", but they run on Linux. And good
software is worth paying for.

There are scads of these at various levels of sophistication.

GLAME (link#2) seems to be the premier app. It is based on gstreamer
(see other gstreamer apps at http://www.gstreamer.net/apps/) which is
GNOME's CORBA/Bonobo powered module multi-media subsystem; and is just
so *^$@&*((()@)_ *COOL*!

There was an article floating about concerning DJ's, etc... who were
using GLAME and raving about it; but I don't have the link.

Personally, I'm 52% deaf, and my ear drums resemble the Matrix's "desert
of the real" thanks to a rather savage little microbe; so I can only
admire this stuff from an academic standpoint. But if you try out GLAME
and use it - it would be an excellent topic for a presentation.
