Easy... LILO.... yep, that is spelled "grub". 

The mentioned trick is probably the easiest way to do it (you might even
be able to use Debian install CDs if they offer a 'rescue' mode).

Otherwise you can boot grub and use that to boot anything.  I'd switch
to grub in order to avoid future debacles as well.

I can't count the times I didn't edit lilo.conf and rerun lilo after
tweaking a kernel.  I hate that feeling.
