I downloaded/compiled/ran the no-ip.com Linux update program, and it
appears to work fine from a box behind my firewall.

Nope, no firewall changes were required at all.  The route connects to
the vonage mother-ship, not the other way around, so it works just like
any other node connecting to the internet.  I've successfully tried this
with a Linux based firewall and using a Linux WAP as my firewall, both.

I hate to admit that I read the directions, but this is all the vonage
setup instructions.  It states that you can plug the VoIP router's
internet port into your local LAN, or use the VoIP box as your internet
firewall/router, either way.
