I did a presentation on VNC that included some screen shots of the ssh
and tunneling from a Win box. Look here:

And look for the VNC presentation on 8/30. Download the powerpoint
file. I have another open-source version somewhere, let me know if you
need it.
The presentation assumes you're using putty on the Win box. The rest is
pretty straight-forward.
BTW, if you're using SSH to tunnel the connection, you don't need the
encryption option of TightVNC, you can use regular old RealVNC. Either
should work.
