[KLUG Members] testing SATA drive

I have an SATA machine.. And all I did was connect it and go.. If you drop
in a CD (WinXP of SUSE ) to do a clean install does it recognize it?
Probably not but if the Bios seems to not recognize it see if there is an
updated bios for that motherboard maybe with bios updates being done when a
machine is on maybe one of those hacks wiped something in the bios.

DISCLAIMER.. I am at work and can not check my Bios to see if it has an area
to see hard drives. I know when my machine boots it does not show anything
about seeing a HD.

Subject: [KLUG Members] testing SATA drive

My neighbor brought over a dead computer recently. Apparently they had lots
of hacking problems, removed them all (so they say) and then, --surprise! --
the computer no longer would boot.

A quick look shows the BIOS no longer recognizes the HD. The drive is
connected o.k. and spins up. I couldn't find any place to put in the HD
parameters manually.

The drive is Serial ATA and I don't have any other boxes that have that
interface to test whether it is the drive or the computer. Any ideas?

kind regards,

bill
