USB Palm devices, at least mine, show up as usb-serial.  That's not a 
very common option in the kernel, so you'll need to compile it or load 
the module.  Once it's loaded, you can sync with most Linux palm 
software (I use j-pilot).  the Palm, when trying to talk to the desktop, 
shows up as two USB serial devices.  I forgot which one you use for 
syncing, but just try them both.
