Tim,
If you want Linux you might want to look at the Nokia 800
<http://www.nokiausa.com/N800/1,9008,,00.html>. I use the 770 which is
its predecessor. You can find applications at
<http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2007> which seems to be
Nokia sponsored but separate. Currently that is in process but
applications for the OS 2006 seem to work for the most part. The PIM I
use is GPE which can be found here <http://gpe.linuxtogo.org/>. A
discussion forum devoted to the device can be found here
<http://internettablettalk.com/>. A mailing list can be found here
<http://maemo.org/community/mailing-lists.html>
I currently do not sync although that is in the works. I've seen and
installed GPE on a Ubuntu system and supposedly one can sync to
Evolution, Outlook, Scheduleworld, Google. Links follow
<http://www.opensync.org/browser/plugins/google-calendar>
<http://www.opensync.org/browser/plugins/gpe>
<http://www.atmasphere.net/wp/archives/2007/01/25/getting-google-calendar-on-your-nokia-tablet> <http://eko.one.pl/index.php?page=GPECalendarSync>.
I originally wanted to be able to sync at all costs, maybe because I
was used to the Palm method. I use the Nokia differently, because I can
connect with the supplied cable and access the Nokia memory card as a
USB drive, send files via email and also I can use SSH to connect as
well. I now backup my data on the Nokia with the included utility.
Regards,
